But here we must take into account the huge population, which will have to divide the entire volume of tea sold in the country (and part of it is also exported), and the type of everyday consumption – in China, tea is usually brewed in large teapots for the whole family, and tea consumption is relatively high.

Low-fermented green tea is most popular in everyday use in China. Although in China, in the homeland of tea, they naturally drink both red (the one that we call black) and black (the one that we call puer), white (unfermented) tea, and oolong tea (“Yellow”, “turquoise” teas), and numerous varieties of all these teas with additives and different processing methods – “smoked” tea, bound tea, jasmine tea, etc.

All this wealth of tea culture is available to tourists. There is one thing – there are a lot of varieties of Chinese tea. The quality of tea produced in thousands of factories varies depending on the factory, and depending on the place of collection (province and plantation), the time of collection and weather for a particular year, the quality of packaging and other factors. In a word, it is difficult for tourists to understand Chinese tea. What is there to advise? Take a chance, but these tips will be very, very simplified.

Firstly, you can take tea in tea shops – in small ones. Secondly, it is better (and more practical on the road) to take tea in a tight sealed package (foil, vacuum packaging, cans in a plastic film, etc.). Well, and thirdly – very sparingly go through the grades.

If you take green tea, look for Te Guanyin (there are a lot of varieties, however, it would be nice to understand them, but seeing the hieroglyphs in the store in front of you is complicated).

It is easier to take red (black) tea – its varieties are much smaller than that of green, and you can at least roughly orientate yourself to the provinces. You can safely take black tea from Yunnan (the homeland of all tea in the world) – it is very soft and with a delicate fruity aroma. And from Fujian province – there are more sharp and tart teas in comparison with Yunnan (but not Indian and Ceylon), but also very tasty. Even simpler – look for (or ask a guide to help) among red teas dian-hoon tea, xiaozhong or kimun.

From oolongs take – da hong-pao (da hong pao). Finally, when buying Chinese puerh, remember that Shen-puer will be better (and more expensive) than shu-puer.
